The Day After You Die

You might be as surprised as I am, it’s the record that almost didn’t make it for several reasons. The Day After You Die (explained below) is a collection of recordings made between 2015 to 2017 on hardware modular synthesizer, each track being one take with only some gentle mastering in afterward.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This record was originally meant to be a precursor to my album Spectra on Elli Records, but the release date butted it up too close to Spectra, so it was shelved.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But then, I had hard drive failure and didn’t have a backup, with the only copies remaining being on 10 cassettes that the label made as a ‘test’ it didn’t make sense to release a 10 copy only album 🙁 — Fast fwd to recent weeks, I was able to swap the head on the dead HDD with one from a blank working drive and retrieve all my lost materials (Thanks to YouTube!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The title is inspired by two things:

(1) Maraṇasati, a Buddhist meditation practice that uses various visualization and contemplation techniques to meditate on the nature of death.

(2) Around the time I was recording this, I lived in the San Fernando Valley and would ride my bicycle in the Santa Monica Mountains almost daily, on an infamously steep road (Stunt Rd.) right at the crest of one of the nastiest part where it felt like your legs were going to explode and your heart falls out of your body, written on the back of a guidepost it said “The Day After You Die” it always helped me, even though my whole body was aching I was still so very thankful to be alive.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The recording of this album was very much a mediative process and I hope that when it is available it can provide relief and a moment of respite for all.
